British South Africa Police (BSAP) gilt and silver-plate cap badge (1897–1937 pattern) – original example of colonial police headdress insignia associated with the British South Africa Police. This striking bimetal badge was worn during the late Victorian, Edwardian, and interwar periods, spanning the reigns of Queen Victoria, Edward VII, George V, and the early reign of George VI.

The badge features the distinctive insignia of the British South Africa Police in gilt and silver-plate, incorporating traditional motifs associated with the force. The attractive two-tone construction highlights the detailed design and reflects the high-quality manufacture typical of official colonial police insignia of the period.

Cap badges of this type were worn on police headwear by members of the BSAP, serving as a visible symbol of authority and service. Founded in 1889, the British South Africa Police combined policing, frontier security, and paramilitary responsibilities, playing a central role in the administration and development of Southern Rhodesia and surrounding territories.

The 1897–1937 pattern represents one of the longest-serving and most recognisable BSAP badge designs. Original examples are highly sought after due to their association with the colonial history of southern Africa and the force’s unique military-police heritage.

Manufactured in gilt and silver-plated metal with original attachment fittings to the reverse, this example represents an important and highly collectable piece of Rhodesian police history.
