2nd Volunteer Battalion, Highland Light Infantry (HLI) Glengarry cap badge (1905–1908 pattern) – restrike example of British Army headdress insignia associated with the Highland Light Infantry during the late Volunteer Force period before the full formation of the Territorial Force in 1908.

The badge features the distinctive Highland Light Infantry insignia in relief, incorporating the regimental cap badge and volunteer battalion scroll designation elements associated with the 2nd Volunteer Battalion. Designed for wear on the traditional Scottish Glengarry cap, the badge reflects the strong regional and Highland-urban identity of the regiment, which recruited extensively from Glasgow and surrounding areas.

Glengarry badges of this type were worn by officers and other ranks as a visible symbol of battalion and regimental affiliation. The Volunteer Force period represented an important stage in the development of Britain’s reserve military structure, preceding the reforms that created the Territorial Force in 1908.

The Highland Light Infantry served with distinction across numerous campaigns, including major contributions during the First World War. Volunteer battalion insignia from the early 20th century are particularly sought after due to their relatively short period of issue and their association with the transition to the Territorial system.

As a restrike example, this badge has been manufactured after the original period of issue but faithfully reproduces the appearance and detail of the historic Volunteer Battalion pattern. Such examples are popular with collectors and enthusiasts of Scottish military history.

Manufactured in white metal with attachment fittings to the reverse, this example represents a high-quality reproduction of a classic pre-Territorial Force Scottish regimental Glengarry badge.
