1914 Mons Star Trio, Driver James Henry Newell, 2nd Pontoon Park, Royal Engineers (Killed in Action 21/7/1917)

James Henry Newell was born in early 1893 in South Kensington, Middlesex, to parents George Albert and Elizabeth Newell. He joined the Royal Engineers on the 21st of February 1911, aged 18, and trained at the Gibraltar Barracks, Stanhope Lines, Aldershot. After completing training, he likely served with the 2nd Bridging Train in Ireland.

On the 20th of August 1914, he disembarked in France and would’ve likely served in Clairmarais, France, until the 6th of July 1916, when the unit moved to Steenwerck, France. He was killed, likely in Steenwerck, on the 21st of July 1917.
