Contemporary miniature medal of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), 1st Type (1917–1937 Pattern), Civilian Division — a British decoration awarded for exceptional civil or public service to the Crown and nation. Established by King George V in 1917 during the First World War, the OBE was created to honour outstanding contributions by military officers and civilians alike.
This miniature is the original 1st Type “Britannia” pattern, featuring the bust of Britannia holding a trident and shield, surrounded by the motto “For God and the Empire”. The cross is gilt and mounted on its correct purple ribbon. Miniatures like this were worn on mess dress or evening attire and remain popular among medal collectors and historians.
