This original British Army cavalry cap badge displays the recognised insignia of the 16th Lancers in well-defined relief, incorporating the regiment’s number and crossed lances and title scroll that reads “Queen’s Lancers”, arranged in a formal and balanced composition characteristic of late 19th-century British cavalry insignia. The absence of the later Tudor or St Edward’s Crown reflects its issue during the reign of Queen Victoria.
Manufactured in bimetal (gilding metal and white metal), this original example represents a genuine Victorian British Army cap badge rather than a later restrike.
