25mm officer’s button from the 24th Punjab (Native) Infantry, worn between 1861 and 1901 during the regiment’s early British Indian Army period. This is the Victorian-era pattern adopted following the post–Mutiny reorganisation, when the newly structured Punjab regiments were issued distinctive insignia reflecting their regional and ethnic composition.

Description

This high-quality gilt officer’s button features:

  • A finely struck circlet reading “Punjab Infantry” and “24” central device and Victorian crown (QVC).

  • Smooth reverse finish typical of officer-grade buttons.

  • A raised rim and domed profile, with a sturdy fixed shank to the reverse.

  • Often manufacturer-marked by British military tailors or button-makers of the period.

Pieces from pre-1901 Punjab regiments are increasingly hard to source, especially officer-grade examples.

Dimensions

  • Diameter: 25mm

  • Material: brass

  • Fixing: Fixed shank

Condition

Very good, with strong definition to the crown and regimental device. Gilding is completely absent. Shank is original and intact.
