An original Glengarry cap badge of the 48th Highlanders of Canada, a regiment in the Canadian Army, originally established in 1891 and based in Toronto, Ontario. This pattern is designed for wear on the traditional Scottish Glengarry headdress, and would have been worn by both ceremonial and active-duty personnel during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Struck in white metal, the badge features the Gaelic inscription “DILEAS GU BRATH” (Faithful Forever) in a circlet around a falcon’s head surmounting a scroll inscribed “48th Highlanders” This particular example likely dates from the inter-war or Second World War period onwards. The reverse is fitted with two original brass lugs (loops), appropriate for wear on a Glengarry .
