8th Gurkha Rifles cap badge produced as a restrike of the pattern worn prior to 1950 by the 8th Gurkha Rifles of the British Indian Army. This Gurkha infantry cap badge displays the recognised insignia of the regiment in clear relief, incorporating the distinctive crossed kukris as the central device, the traditional fighting knives carried by Gurkha soldiers, set below the numeral “8”.
The crossed kukris device became the defining emblem of Gurkha units serving within the British Indian Army and symbolises the martial heritage and battlefield reputation of these regiments. The 8th Gurkha Rifles served with distinction in numerous campaigns of the British Empire and during both the First and Second World Wars. This pattern of badge represents the regiment’s insignia during the late colonial period prior to the reorganisation of Gurkha units following Indian independence in 1947.
Manufactured in white metal consistent with service dress wear, this restrike example provides a sharply defined representation of the traditional regimental pattern. 8th Gurkha Rifles cap badges are collected as examples of Gurkha militaria, British Indian Army insignia, and historic regimental uniform hardware.
