Belgian/French M1842 Rifle Bayonet. Heavy brass ribbed held by rivets, one rivet holding the leaf locating catch leaf spring the other holding the grip through the tang. The blade tang comes through the pommel top and is also riveted. Heavy steel cross-guard with reverse quillon’s containing the muzzle ring. 57 cm single fullered Yataghan blade, complete in it steel Scabbard. 715 mm overall length. Few Markings except two inspector’s ‘shield’ stamps at ricasso. Probably Liege Belgian manufacture for France, so no rolled engraving for manufacturer along blade back.
