An original British Second World War–era issue jack knife, marked “NKF”. This example is a distinctive variation on the standard issue knives for both Army and Royal Navy personnel, intended as robust utility tools for general field and shipboard tasks.
The knife is typical of wartime patterns, featuring a main square-shaped blade, can opener, and marlin spike for rope work as well as an integral lanyard loop. The unusual difference is the fact that the scales are made of a composite material with a oated finish. The ricasso of the knife is marked “NKF” and the scales are marked “SEO (Broad Arrow) 1”. There are no visible date markings.
