An original First World War British No. 23 Mk. II Mills Bomb, dated 1917 and rendered completely inert. The No. 23 was an updated version of the earlier No. 5 Mills grenade, adapted for both hand-throwing and rifle launching. This example retains its cast-iron segmented body with its original cast-iron base plug, which bears manufacturer’s markings “(?) W Co” and a date of “(3 or 5) 17” (March or May 1917).
Condition
Very good. Grenade body remains in very good original condition with crisp external fragmentation pattern. Metal components show age patina and light surface wear, consistent with storage and handling. All parts are free from active fillings and are permanently inert.
Inv. No: SC-4
