Portuguese Mod.1885 Guedes and Model 1886 Kropatschek Rifle Bayonet. Steel pommel with coil spring press locking stud, slab wooden grips held by two rivets. Cross-guard with quillon and muzzle ring with quillon, 471mm Yataghan blade, complete in a steel scabbard. The back of the blade is marked in the running script ‘Steyr 1886’ and the bayonet frog stud is marked ‘OEWG’, however, both of these markings are very difficult to read. 600mm Overall length. Marked on the cross guard “SS722” and near the mouth of the scabbard “N108”.
Condition: Good, however as previously mentioned the markings are reasonably hard to read. In addition, the catch has been replaced with one that doesn’t fit well. Also there’s a chunk missing out of the grip near the rivet on one side, likely due to poor storage
