Original shoulder title of the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers, manufactured to the pattern introduced in 1935 and remaining in use until the regiment’s amalgamation in 1968. This title reflects the regiment’s late inter-war and Second World War identity, during which it served extensively in a variety of theatres, including North-West Europe, North Africa, and the Far East. The pattern continued in wear through the post-war period until the formation of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers.
The title bears the regiment’s initials “NF”, separated by a flaming grenade and scroll that reads “Royal”, produced in gilding metal for attachment to battledress and service dress uniforms. As an original example rather than a later restrike, it represents an authentic piece of regimental insignia worn by serving soldiers of the period.
