Born on the 2nd of March 1895 in Clee, Grimsby, Lincolnshire, John enlisted into the 3/1st North Midland Brigade, RFA on the 11th of October 1915. He was posted to France on the 26th of March 1916, joining the 8th Battery on the 28th of the same month, joining 233rd Battery on the 23rd of May 1916 and later to the 231st Brigade, C Battery on the 29th of September 1916. He then became an AA for the rest of the War, starting on the 2nd of December 1916.
He was demobilised on the 30th of August 1919 and became a cod liver oil maker for a fishing company in Grimsby after the war. He died in April 1977
