US 105mm M14 Type 1 field howitzer shell case, dated 1943 and manufactured by RC&B Inc., a Second World War-period artillery component used by United States forces. This brass case formed part of the complete round for the 105mm Howitzers, one of the most widely used Allied field guns of the war.
The case is of cylindrical brass construction, designed to contain the propellant charge used to fire the projectile. The base is stamped “105MM. M14 / LOT RCB – 28 TYPE-1 / RC&B INC. 1943” and “US Ordnance” inspection marking, placing it within peak wartime output and reflecting standardised U.S. ordnance production practices.
Shell cases of this type were issued in large quantities across multiple theatres, including Europe and the Pacific, supporting infantry operations with mobile artillery fire. After firing, cases were typically ejected and could be reconditioned for reuse or retained as souvenirs or for post-war repurposing. They are widely collected within Second World War militaria, particularly for their clear markings and association with U.S. artillery operations.
Manufactured in brass with a solid, well-defined base, this example offers a representative piece of Allied wartime production and field equipment.
