101st Regiment (Edmonton Fusiliers) collar badge, dating from the period between 1909 and 1914. The regiment was a Canadian militia unit based in Edmonton, Alberta, and formed part of the expanding Canadian military establishment in the years preceding the First World War. Its designation as the 101st Regiment reflected the numbered regimental system used by the Canadian Militia during this period.
The broached construction is characteristic of early twentieth-century Canadian regimental insignia, with the reverse incorporating a brooch-style fitting for attachment to the uniform collar. The badge represents the regiment’s pre-war identity, before the extensive reorganisation of Canadian military units during and after the First World War. It is of interest to collectors of early Canadian Militia badges, Edmonton military history and pre-1914 Commonwealth insignia.
