Cap badge of the Memorable Order of Tin Hats (MOTH), a fraternal organisation founded in South Africa in 1927 to promote camaraderie and remembrance among military veterans of all conflicts. The MOTH was established by Charles Evenden, a WWI veteran and cartoonist, and has since grown into a respected brotherhood with branches (“Shellholes”) across South Africa and abroad.

This badge is die-struck in bronzed brass and features a candle on a “Tin Hat” as its central motif, surrounded by stars with inverted crossed rifles. The four arms refer to the principles and titles of the war veterans groups: “SM” (Sound Memory), “MH” (Mutual Help), “TC” (True Comradeship), and MOTH. This example is designed for wear on the cap or beret, commonly by members attending parades, commemorations, or lodge meetings.

Reverse fitted with 2 east-west clutch pins, depending on variant, for secure attachment.
