Original German 15cm sFH 13 (schwere Feldhaubitze 13) brass shell case, dated 1917, as used by Imperial German artillery units during the First World War and later reissued by the Third Reich for continued use into WWII.
The 15cm sFH 13 was the standard heavy field howitzer of the German Imperial Army, seeing extensive action on the Western Front and other theatres. Many surviving WWI shell cases like this were kept in service, reworked, or repurposed by the Wehrmacht during the 1930s and into WWII.
This large brass shell case retains clear stamped markings, reading “585 / PATRONFABRIK / KARLSRUHE / MRZ 1917 (March 1917) / Sp225”
A classic piece for collectors of WWI artillery memorabilia, Third Reich ordnance, or those interested in the evolution of German field artillery through both World Wars. It also makes a striking base for trench art or display.
