An original officer’s gilt collar badge for the Essex Regiment. These badges feature the Imperial French Eagle, representative of the French 62nd Regiment of the line captured in the Battle of Salamanca. This pattern was introduced circa 1898 and remained in use until the regiment’s amalgamation into the East Anglian Brigade in 1958.

Finely made in gilt metal, this badge was worn on officers’ service dress and ceremonial uniforms.

Condition: Very good, retaining much of the original gilt finish. Fitted with intact lugs on the reverse.

Dimensions: approx. 33mm x 27mm
