No. 36 Mk. 1 grenade was introduced in the Great War and remained in use in the British military until 1932. The No. 36 grenade featured a traditional cast-iron, grooved pineapple design. It had a central striker held by a closed-hand lever and secured by a pin. Upon detonation, the segmented body produced uniform fragments, a characteristic also found in several other grenade types.

Marked on the body “CC” (Carron Company, Falkirk, Scotland), on the lever “DHS” and on the baseplate is marked “No. 36 M 1 / 10 18 (October, 1918) / DF Co. (DFCo Derwent Foundry Co, Exeter Place, Derby or Dudley Foundry Co.)

Condition:

Very good.  The grenade has some minor wear and has had the drill holes, made during the deactivation process, patched, but they are visible.

Inv. No:

SC-4
