Original British No. 36M Mills hand grenade from the Second World War, rendered permanently inert for display. The No. 36M is the later modification of the iconic Mills pattern fragmentation grenade, widely issued to British and Commonwealth forces during WWII. This design retains the classic segmented cast-iron body and threaded top plug construction, and removable base plug.

The base plug is marked with an “S” in a diamond (Schultz Diecasting Co., Wallaceburg, Ontario, Canada) and date mark “45” (1945). The body is marked with a large “G” (Galt Metal Industries, Ontario, Canada) as well as a Broad Arrow above the top plug. The lever is marked “Chatco”, Chatham Co., Chatham, Ontario, Canada; however, it’s difficult to read

Dimensions

Height: approx. 100mm

Diameter: approx. 57mm

Condition
Excellent. Perfect for display. The cast-iron fragmentation body has likely been lacquered, which has kept off any rust. Almost all the markings are easily legible. The top plug and thread are present; the lever and pin assembly are fitted in period style (non-live / inert). All explosive components have been permanently removed or rendered safe — the item is confirmed inert and suitable for safe display. No repairs or modern modifications noted.
