A miniature version of the Indian Distinguished Service Medal (IDSM) as awarded during the reign of King George VI. The IDSM was instituted in 1907 and served as the second-highest gallantry award for Indian other ranks, just below the Indian Order of Merit. The George VI issue (1936–1947) saw extensive awards during the North-West Frontier operations and the Second World War.
