24th, 25th, 26th, and 27th (Tyneside Irish) Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers shoulder title produced for wear during the First World War by the locally raised “Pals” battalions recruited in the Tyneside area. This British Army WW1 brass shoulder title denotes service with the Tyneside Irish battalions of the Northumberland Fusiliers, units formed in 1914 as part of Kitchener’s New Army. The design comprises the Irish harp with a scroll reading “TYNESIDE IRISH”, surmounted by the King’s crown, intended for wear on the shoulder straps of the standard service dress tunic.
Manufactured in brass with a service finish appropriate to wartime production, the title badge reflects the straightforward and functional style of First World War British Army shoulder insignia. Tyneside Irish battalion shoulder titles are collected as examples of WW1 British Army militaria, Pals battalion insignia, and Northumberland Fusiliers regimental history, particularly relating to service on the Western Front. The reverse is fitted with standard lug fittings for secure attachment.
