London and North Western Railway (LNWR / L&NWR) uniform button of the pre-1922 pattern, associated with one of the largest and most influential railway companies in Britain before the 1923 grouping. This 19.5mm button features the company’s recognised device in fine relief, incorporating the full company title encircling a central motif of Britannia holding a trident, all executed in white metal consistent with period railway uniform fittings.
The London and North Western Railway played a major role in connecting London with the Midlands, North West England, and beyond, forming a key part of Britain’s industrial and transport network during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Buttons of this type were worn by railway staff, including guards, stationmasters, and officials, forming part of formal uniform dress and corporate identity.
Manufactured in white metal with a loop shank fitting to the reverse, this example provides a well-defined representation of historic British railway insignia. LNWR buttons are collected as examples of railway memorabilia, transport history, and pre-grouping railway uniform components.
Condition
Very good overall condition with clear detailing and a well-preserved surface. Minor signs of age-related wear and use may be present. Shank to the reverse remains intact and secure. No significant damage or repairs are evident.
