Castlemartin Yeomanry Cavalry officer’s uniform button, 21mm size, silver-plated example of the pattern worn between 1830 and 1893. This button features the regiment’s initials “CYC” within a wreath surmounted by the St. Edward’s crown (denoting Victorian and earlier periods) and executed on a silver plate consistent with officer-grade uniform fittings of the Victorian era.
The Castlemartin Yeomanry Cavalry formed part of Britain’s county-based volunteer mounted forces, raised for home defence and internal security during the eighteenth century. The crown motif reflects allegiance to the British sovereign during the reign of William IV and Queen Victoria, while the refined silver-plated finish denotes officer status and higher-quality manufacture. Buttons of this type were worn on full dress and service uniforms, reflecting regimental identity and social standing within yeomanry units. The Castlemartin Yeomanry Cavalry later became known as the Pembrokeshire Yeomanry and continues to exist today as a part of the RLC.
Manufactured in silver-plated metal with a loop shank fitting to the reverse, this example provides a well-defined representation of nineteenth-century British yeomanry insignia. Castlemartin Yeomanry buttons are collected as examples of Victorian militaria, cavalry regiment memorabilia, and officers’ uniform components.
