34th (Cumberland) Regiment of Foot Glengarry cap badge (1874–1881 pattern), a restrike example based on the late Victorian-era insignia of the 34th (Cumberland) Regiment of Foot. This regiment, later amalgamated into the Border Regiment following the Childers Reforms of 1881, served as part of the British Army’s line infantry with a long and established history.

The badge design reflects the patterns introduced in the 1870s, incorporating the central numeral “34” and circlet bearing the regimental title “Cumberland Regiment”, all within a Maltese cross and wreath, accompanied by battle honours on the arms of the cross and on a scroll. Such elements are characteristic of the period, highlighting regimental identity while conforming to evolving uniform regulations of the late Victorian Army.

Glengarry badges of this type were worn on the traditional Scottish-style Glengarry cap, used for undress and field wear by a variety of regiments. These badges provided a clear visual indication of regimental affiliation and formed part of the standardised appearance of British Army personnel during the period.

The 1874–1881 pattern places this design within the years immediately preceding the Childers Reforms, a significant reorganisation of the British Army that resulted in the amalgamation and renaming of many regiments. As such, badges of this pattern represent a distinct and relatively short-lived phase in regimental insignia history.

This restrike example has been manufactured to replicate the appearance and detailing of original period badges. While not of original manufacture, it offers an accurate and accessible representation suitable for collectors, display, or reenactment use.

Constructed in brass with standard fittings to the reverse, this badge provides a durable and well-defined example of British regimental insignia. Items relating to the 34th (Cumberland) Regiment are collected within British militaria, particularly for their association with pre-1881 regimental structures.
