Royal Dublin Fusiliers cap badge, representing the British Army infantry regiment formed in 1881 through the amalgamation of the 102nd Regiment of Foot (Royal Madras Fusiliers) and the 103rd Regiment of Foot (Royal Bombay Fusiliers). The regiment recruited principally in Dublin and the surrounding counties and served during the Boer War and the First World War. Following the establishment of the Irish Free State, the regiment was disbanded in 1922.
The bi-metal badge incorporates the flaming grenade traditionally associated with British Fusilier regiments, together with the distinctive elephant and tiger devices connected to the regiment’s historical origins in the former East India Company regiments. A scroll bearing the regimental title completes the design. Dating from approximately 1898 to 1922, this pattern is of interest to collectors of British Army insignia, Irish military history and Boer War and First World War militaria.
