Royal Devon Yeomanry, Royal Artillery cap badge (1924–1953 pattern) – original example of British Army headdress insignia associated with the Royal Devon Yeomanry during its service as a Territorial Army artillery regiment.
The badge features the distinctive insignia of the Royal Devon Yeomanry, incorporating the regimental title “Royal Devon Yeomanry / Artillery” and a King’s crown, reflecting the regiment’s conversion from a mounted cavalry role to artillery service in the post-war reorganisation of the Territorial Army. The design represents a unique and short-lived chapter in the regiment’s history, making the original pattern particularly noteworthy among collectors of Yeomanry insignia.
Cap badges of this type were worn on military headwear by officers and other ranks of the Royal Devon Yeomanry, serving as a visible symbol of regimental affiliation and esprit de corps. The 1924–1953 pattern remained in use for nearly three decades, spanning the reigns of George V, George VI, and the early reign of Elizabeth II.
During World War II, the Royal Devon Yeomanry served with distinction in artillery roles, contributing to British operations in several theatres of war. The regiment’s long association with Devon and its adaptation to changing military requirements make its insignia particularly appealing to collectors of Yeomanry and Royal Artillery memorabilia.
Manufactured in brass with broken, though original, attachment fittings to the reverse, this example represents an authentic piece of British Territorial Army and artillery history.
