Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers cap badge of the King’s Crown pattern, worn by personnel of the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RCEME), the technical corps of the Canadian Army responsible for the maintenance, repair and recovery of military equipment. This Canadian Army corps cap badge displays the recognised RCEME insignia, incorporating a chained horse positioned above the globe, with a lightning bolt in the background inspired by the British design. The composition, surmounted by the King’s Crown, reflects the pattern used during the reign of King George VI.
RCEME was formed in 1944 during the Second World War, bringing together technical trades previously distributed across several Canadian Army organisations. The King’s Crown badge represents the corps’ immediate post-war identity, before the adoption of the Queen’s Crown following the accession of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.
Manufactured in bimetal consistent with Canadian Army corps insignia of the period, this example represents the historic King’s Crown pattern. RCEME cap badges are collected as examples of Canadian militaria, Second World War and post-war military insignia, and Commonwealth technical corps uniform badges.
