Queen’s Own Oxfordshire Hussars Yeomanry Button (Pre-1901 Pattern), a small 15mm British Yeomanry uniform button associated with the Queen’s Own Oxfordshire Hussars Yeomanry and the county’s historic volunteer cavalry tradition. The pre-1901 pattern places this button in the Victorian period, before the accession of King Edward VII and the subsequent adoption of Edwardian uniform patterns.
The Queen’s Own Oxfordshire Hussars developed from the volunteer cavalry organisations established in Oxfordshire during the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. As a Yeomanry regiment, it provided locally raised mounted troops and maintained a distinctive regimental identity within the British auxiliary forces. The regiment went on to serve during the First World War, including overseas service, while retaining its Oxfordshire cavalry traditions.
This early button is of particular interest to collectors of Victorian Yeomanry insignia, British cavalry buttons, Oxfordshire military history, Queen’s Own Oxfordshire Hussars memorabilia and pre-1901 British uniform. Its small 15mm diameter is characteristic of a smaller uniform button and makes it a useful addition to collections of early Yeomanry dress items.
Dimensions
15mm diameter.
Condition
Good overall condition with age-related wear and surface patination. The principal regimental details remain visible and the button is suitable for display or inclusion in a collection of Victorian British Yeomanry insignia.
