East Lancashire Regiment officer’s cap badge, 1953–1958 pattern, in silver and gilt metal. The badge features the distinctive regimental design associated with the East Lancashire Regiment, combining silver and gilt elements in the style of officer-quality British Army insignia. This pattern dates from the post-war period under Queen Elizabeth II and was used during the final years of the regiment’s independent existence.
The East Lancashire Regiment, descended from the 30th Regiment of Foot, had a long history of service with the British Army, including campaigns during the First and Second World Wars. The regiment was amalgamated with the South Lancashire Regiment in 1958 to form the Lancashire Regiment (Prince of Wales’s Volunteers), making the 1953–1958 pattern particularly relevant to collectors of post-war British regimental insignia and Lancashire Regiment militaria.
The combination of silver and gilt metal is characteristic of officer’s dress insignia and gives this cap badge a more distinctive appearance than standard other-rank examples. A useful addition to a collection of East Lancashire Regiment, British Army, infantry and officer’s cap badges.
