Royal Winnipeg Rifles cap badge, representing the Canadian Army infantry regiment based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The regiment traces its origins to 1883 and has a distinguished history of service, including participation in the First World War and the Second World War. The title “Royal” was granted in 1933, recognising the regiment’s established service and traditions.
The central motif of the design features a running devil, known as the “Little Black Devil”. This devil is depicted holding a trident and a chalice, and the entire figure is enclosed within a circular garter that displays the name of the regiment. The motto scroll showcases the Latin phrase “Hosti Acie Nominati,” which translates to “Named by the enemy in battle”.
This Queen’s Crown pattern was introduced following the accession of Queen Elizabeth II in 1952 and remained in use until the transition to the King’s Crown following the accession of King Charles III in 2022. The badge incorporates the regiment’s distinctive insignia, identifying the Royal Winnipeg Rifles and reflecting its longstanding place within Canada’s military heritage. It is suitable for collectors of Canadian regimental badges, Commonwealth military insignia and twentieth-century Canadian Army militaria.
