Antique Tuareg takoba sword, a traditional straight-bladed sword associated with the Tuareg peoples of the Sahara and Sahel regions of North and West Africa. The takoba was carried by Tuareg warriors and formed part of the region’s distinctive edged-weapon tradition. This example has a tapering double-edged blade with regional markings and 3 shallow fullers. The grip and crossguard is bound in hide with a steel and brass pommel. The sword is accompanied by its leather scabbard, featuring decorative patterns and metal bands, providing an important part of the original presentation. This piece is of interest to collectors of African edged weapons, Saharan material culture and antique ethnographic arms.

Approx. 96cm overall length in scabbard

Approx. 80cm blade length

Condition
Good overall condition, with age-related wear consistent with use and environmental exposure, including scuffs to the leather, minor chips and discolouration to the blade. The hilt covering exhibits wear and minor dents from handling and storage.
