Le Régiment de Hull cap badge, representing the Canadian infantry regiment established in Hull, Quebec, in 1914. The unit was initially designated the 70th Regiment before becoming The Hull Regiment in 1920 and adopting the French-language title Le Régiment de Hull on 1 March 1923. During the Second World War, the regiment undertook local protection duties in Canada, while its associated overseas personnel contributed to the Canadian war effort. In 1946, the regiment was converted to an armoured role and redesignated the 21st Armoured Regiment (Régiment de Hull).
The badge features a central tower within a circular band bearing the title “LE RÉGIMENT DE HULL”, surmounted by the King’s Crown and flanked by maple leaves. A beaver supports the design above a scroll bearing the regimental motto “ON NE PASSE PAS”, French for “They shall not pass”. The tower reinforces the meaning of the motto, while the maple leaves and beaver represent service to Canada, and the Crown signifies service to the Sovereign. The 1923–1953 pattern covers the period from the adoption of the French regimental title through the post-war years. It is of interest to collectors of Canadian military insignia, French-Canadian regimental history and Second World War-era cap badges.
