United States Iraq Campaign Medal (ICM), an American military campaign decoration established in 2004 to recognise eligible members of the United States Armed Forces who served in direct support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The medal commemorates American military operations in Iraq from 19 March 2003 through 31 December 2011, covering the initial invasion, the subsequent occupation and counter-insurgency campaigns, and the transition towards Iraqi security and governance. Eligibility generally required 30 consecutive days or 60 non-consecutive days in the designated area of operations, with exceptions for personnel engaged in combat, medically evacuated following wounds or injuries, or serving as qualifying aircrew.
The bronze medal features a relief map of Iraq, with parallel lines representing the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, positioned above a palm wreath. The obverse bears the inscription “IRAQ CAMPAIGN”. The reverse depicts the Statue of Freedom above a sunburst, flanked by two crossed scimitars, with the inscription “FOR SERVICE IN IRAQ”. The ribbon incorporates blue, teal, sand and orange, reflecting the colours associated with the Middle Eastern landscape and the historic Ishtar Gate. This medal is of interest to collectors of United States military decorations, Gulf War-era memorabilia and modern American campaign medals.
