French Army Armoured Cavalry (Arme Blindée Cavalerie) beret cap badge, representing the armoured and cavalry branch of the French Army. The Arme Blindée Cavalerie was formed in 1943 through the reorganisation of France’s armoured and cavalry forces, bringing together the traditional cavalry arm with modern armoured formations. Its personnel served in reconnaissance, mechanised infantry and armoured roles, operating tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles. The branch retains the traditions of the French cavalry while representing the development of modern mechanised warfare.
The badge is the distinctive metal beret insignia worn by French armoured cavalry personnel, identifying their military arm rather than an individual regiment. French examples were manufactured by several established military insignia makers, including Drago of Paris, Arthus Bertrand and Béraudy-Vaure. Variations exist in manufacture, reverse construction and maker’s markings, with examples produced in stamped metal. The badge is an interesting addition to collections of post-war French Army insignia, armoured warfare militaria and European military beret badges.
