Somerset Light Infantry (Prince Albert’s) brass uniform button, representing the county infantry regiment of Somerset and its service between the reorganisation of 1881 and amalgamation in 1959. The regiment descended from the 13th Regiment of Foot, which received the title Prince Albert’s Light Infantry in 1842. Following the Childers Reforms of 1881, it became Prince Albert’s (Somersetshire Light Infantry), subsequently adopting the title Somerset Light Infantry in 1912. From 1921, its official designation was The Somerset Light Infantry (Prince Albert’s). The regiment served in numerous campaigns, including the Boer War, both World Wars and the Malayan Emergency, before amalgamating with the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry in October 1959 to form the Somerset and Cornwall Light Infantry.
