Bengal Light Cavalry brass button, pre-1857 pattern, dating from the period of the Honourable East India Company’s Bengal Army. The button is associated with the Bengal Light Cavalry, the mounted cavalry regiments maintained by the Bengal Presidency before the reorganisation of the Indian Army following the Indian Rebellion of 1857.
The Bengal Light Cavalry formed an important part of the East India Company’s mounted forces and saw service across British India during the nineteenth century. Several Bengal cavalry regiments were involved in the events of 1857, making surviving pre-1857 uniform buttons particularly relevant to collectors of East India Company militaria, Indian Army history and Victorian military buttons.
This small brass uniform button is suitable for collectors of Bengal Army insignia, East India Company buttons, Indian cavalry militaria and pre-1857 British Indian military artefacts.
