1914 Mons Star Trio, Driver Edward Hicks, Royal Field Artillery

Driver Hicks was born around 1883 in Burnham, Essex, to parents Edward and Eliza Hicks. He enlisted at age 18, on the 2nd of September 1902. He was posted as a Driver, 5th November 1902, as part of the 114th Battery, Royal Field Artillery and later transferred to reserve on 5th September 1905.

He signed hs re-engagement papers in May of 1914 and entered the theatre of war in France on the 23rd of August, 1914 as part of the 14th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. Returned home 29th of August 1915 before returning to France on the 6th of November 1915. He was then transferred to the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force on 21st of January 1916.

Joined the 1st Brigade, Small Arms Ammunition Section (SAAS) on the 9th of November 1916, where he presumably remained until he was placed on a hospital ship on the 8th of June 1918, attributed to being on service. He was returned home on the 20th of June 1918 and officially discharged on the 21st of February 1919.

He would die in Colchester in 1951, aged 68
