Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) cap badge, restrike example of the distinctive insignia worn by members of the Auxiliary Territorial Service during the Second World War. The badge features the prominent “ATS” cypher within a laurel wreath, surmounted by a king’s crown and incorporating the service’s distinctive central design.

The Auxiliary Territorial Service was established in 1938 as the women’s branch of the British Army. During the Second World War, ATS personnel undertook a wide range of military support duties, including clerical work, communications, transport, anti-aircraft operations, catering and other essential services. More than 200,000 women served in the ATS during the war, making its insignia an important area of British women’s military collecting.

The badge features a detailed laurel wreath surrounding the large ATS lettering, with the central vertical element extending downwards into the lower part of the design. A king’s crown surmounts the badge, confirming its wartime pattern. The open-work construction and detailed wreath provide the distinctive appearance associated with ATS cap badges.
