A contemporary miniature of the King George V Silver Jubilee Medal, created to accompany the full-size award struck to commemorate the 25th anniversary of King George V’s accession to the throne in 1935. Miniatures of this type were privately produced for officers’ and officials’ mess-dress groups and were not officially issued.

Description

The miniature accurately follows the style and layout of the official 1935 medal:

  • Form: Circular, silvered-metal miniature medal.

  • Obverse: Conjoined effigies of King George V and Queen Mary, crowned and robed, facing left. The legend around the top edge reads “GEORGE • V • AND • QUEEN • MARY • MAY • VI • MCMXXXV”

  • Reverse:  The Royal Cypher “GRI”, surmounted by an Imperial Crown. At the left is the date “MAY 6 / 1910” in two lines, and at right the date: “MAY 6 / 1935”. The border is ornate.

  • Ribbon: Dark blue with a central white stripe flanked by two thin red stripes – the correct 1935 Jubilee ribbon.

Approximate Specifications

  • Material: Silvered metal

  • Diameter: ~18 mm

  • Ribbon Width: 16 mm

  • Suspension: Small ring suspension

Condition

Typically shows a clean strike with good detail to the dual-profile obverse; ribbon remains correct to pattern. As a contemporary miniature, it is intended for dress wear or mounted medal groups rather than being an official government-issued original.
