Established by King George V in 1917, the Order of the British Empire remains one of the most recognised and prestigious British honours.
This decoration is the Officer grade (OBE) of the Order, worn for significant contributions that do not reach the knighthood level but are above the Member (MBE). The Civil Division badge features a gilt cross patonce with King George V and Queen Mary in the centre, with a circlet that reads “For God and the Empire”. The reverse shows the cypher “GRI”.
