An original First World War German M1917 Eierhandgranate (“egg hand grenade”), complete with its transport plug. Introduced in 1917 as a lighter and more compact alternative to the stick grenade, the Eierhandgranate was widely issued to German infantry in the final stages of the Great War. This example features the classic oval, egg-shaped cast-iron body with external ribbed fragmentation grooves, original threaded top section, and the correct fitted transport plug in place of the fuze assembly.
Marked on the base “5 / SBF”.
Condition
Very good. Well-defined fragmentation grooves and visible surface detail. The original transport plug is intact and securely fitted. The metal body shows even patina with areas of light surface oxidation consistent with age. All components are inert, with no explosive filling.
