Original helmet plate of the Royal Marines, produced to the post-1953 pattern bearing the Queen’s Crown. Helmet plates of this type were worn on ceremonial and full-dress helmets during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and feature the long-established Royal Marines emblem of the globe within a laurel wreath, on a Brunswick star backing. This pattern remained in use for several decades and is closely associated with post-war and Cold War-era Royal Marines ceremonial dress.
Manufactured in gilding metal, the plate displays strong relief and well-defined detailing to the globe, wreath, and crown. Original examples such as this were intended for wear rather than display, and the quality of manufacture reflects formal dress standards of the period. The reverse is fitted with the correct eyed lug fixings for mounting to a helmet.
