Royal Hampshire Regiment cap badge produced as a restrike of the Queen’s Crown pattern worn between 1953 and 1991. This British Army infantry cap badge displays the recognised insignia of the Royal Hampshire Regiment in clear relief, incorporating the regimental tiger and Hampshire rose above a scroll bearing the title “Royal Hampshire.” The tiger emblem commemorates the regiment’s distinguished service in India, particularly during the late eighteenth century campaigns against Tipu Sultan, from which the device was adopted as a lasting regimental symbol.
The design reflects the regiment’s identity as a county infantry regiment of the British Army and its continued service during the post-war period until its amalgamation in 1992 to form the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment. The Queen’s Crown surmounting the badge represents the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and the pattern worn during the latter half of the twentieth century.
Manufactured in bimetal (brass and white metal) consistent with service dress and beret wear, this restrike example offers a sharply defined representation of the original post-1953 pattern. Royal Hampshire Regiment cap badges are collected as examples of post-war British Army militaria, county regiment insignia, and historic regimental uniform hardware. The reverse is fitted with standard hook slider fittings for secure attachment to a cap or beret.
