Women’s Voluntary Service (WVS) Medal, complete with its presentation box, awarded for long and meritorious service to the organisation. Instituted in 1961 by Queen Elizabeth II, the medal was granted to women (and later men) who served at least 15 years with the WVS, later known as the WRVS (Women’s Royal Voluntary Service).
Struck in cupro-nickel, the obverse features the initials “WVS” in a wreath of ivy, while the reverse bears the inscription “Service Beyond Self” around three flower stems of rosemary. The medal is suspended from a green, white and crimson-edged ribbon, housed in its original green leatherette presentation box, with the name of the medal in gold-coloured lettering on the lid and “Royal Mint” and trademark internally.
Condition: Very good (condition of the case and medal may vary slightly from photos)
