13th (1st Somersetshire) (Prince Albert’s Light Infantry) Regiment of Foot cap badge (1874–1881 pattern), a restrike example based on the late Victorian-era insignia of the 13th (1st Somersetshire) (Prince Albert’s Light Infantry) Regiment of Foot. This regiment, later becoming the Somerset Light Infantry following the Childers Reforms of 1881, served as part of the British Army’s light infantry with a distinguished operational history.

The badge design features patterns that originated in the 1870s. It includes a mural-crowned bugle horn at the centre, with the numeral “13” displayed prominently. Above the bugle horn is a scroll inscribed with the battle honour “Jellalabad”. As a light infantry regiment, aspects of the design also represent the traditions of rapid movement and skirmishing roles, setting it apart from the insignia of standard line infantry.

The 1874–1881 pattern places this badge within a relatively short and clearly defined period immediately prior to the reorganisation of the British Army under the Childers Reforms. As such, badges of this type represent a transitional phase in regimental identity, linking numbered regiments to their later county-based titles.

This restrike example has been manufactured to replicate the appearance and detailing of original period badges. While not of contemporary manufacture, it offers an accurate and accessible representation suitable for collectors, display, or reenactment use.

Constructed in brass with standard fittings to the reverse, this example provides a durable and well-defined representation of British regimental insignia. Items relating to the 13th (Somersetshire) Regiment are widely collected within British militaria, particularly for their pre-1881 associations and light infantry heritage.
