1st (Pembrokeshire) Volunteer Battalion, Welsh Regiment cap badge produced to the c.1881–1908 pattern, representing the insignia worn during the late Victorian and early Edwardian period before the formation of the Territorial Force. This original British Army Volunteer Battalion cap badge displays the standard Welsh Regiment badge design, executed in white metal with the additional scroll reading “1st Volr Battn” in well-defined relief, executed in white metal with a formal composition typical of late 19th-century volunteer infantry insignia.
This example represents a genuine pre-1908 original rather than a later restrike. Such badges were worn on glengarries and other headdress forms by volunteer infantry personnel and are collected as examples of Victorian and Edwardian British Army volunteer militaria, Welsh regiment insignia, and pre-Territorial Force uniform hardware. The reverse is fitted with original lug fittings for secure attachment.
