21st (First Surrey Rifles) Battalion, County of London Regiment cap badge, original blackened example of the pattern worn by this distinguished Territorial Force rifle unit. This Territorial infantry cap badge displays the recognised insignia of the battalion in clear relief, executed in a darkened (blackened) style and arranged in a composition characteristic of Rifle Regiment and Territorial Force headdress insignia.
The bugle horn emblem is traditionally associated with rifle regiments, reflecting their role as light infantry and skirmishers. The battalion formed part of the London Regiment and served during the First World War, where Territorial battalions played a significant role in overseas operations alongside regular units.
Manufactured in blackened white metal consistent with rifle regiment traditions, this original example provides a sharply defined representation of the original battalion pattern. Surrey Rifles cap badges are collected as examples of Territorial Force militaria, British Army rifle regiment insignia, and historic regimental uniform hardware.
