25mm officer’s button from the 24th Punjab (Native) Infantry, worn between 1861 and 1901 during the regiment’s early British Indian Army period. This is the Victorian-era pattern adopted following the post–Mutiny reorganisation, when the newly structured Punjab regiments were issued distinctive insignia reflecting their regional and ethnic composition.
Description
This high-quality gilt officer’s button features:
A finely struck circlet reading “Punjab Infantry” and “24” central device and Victorian crown (QVC).
Smooth reverse finish typical of officer-grade buttons.
A raised rim and domed profile, with a sturdy fixed shank to the reverse.
Often manufacturer-marked by British military tailors or button-makers of the period.
